Our Story
Based in the heart of central neighborhood of North Park, San Diego, California, IRIS opens its doors to initially serve students from grade levels TK, K, and 1 (four to six year olds). Through a partnership with local nonprofit, Art Produce, IRIS cohabitates a unique space with a long history of community engagement. IRIS collaborates with local businesses and community sites (library, parks, restaurants and retail) to enhance learning opportunities for students and maintain strong ties to the community it serves. IRIS’ Mobile Classrooms also provide flexible space for regular field trips and outdoor learning throughout San Diego.
IRIS is driven by its core values of top-quality education, teacher excellence, community connections, and family engagement. Our core curriculum is STEAM-focused, leveraging technology, English-language development, arts, wellness, and early-childhood development as the standard.
IRIS promotes an inquiry-based framework informed by classroom-based research to both develop common school goals and encourage the pursuit of individual passions and questions. IRIS seeks mission-aligned community partners and fosters relationships with nonprofit, corporate, and philanthropic partners to maintain a long-term, sustainable funding model. |
